New year- new openings

Im tired of playing the same openings over and over again. My repetoire consists of d4 as White, semi-slav as black vs d4 and sicilian and alekhine(Nf6) vs e4. But 2017 i a new year and therefore I want some tips from you guys what new openings to play in 2017. I don't want to learn an entire system by heart, I just want to play openings that can be learnt by a few videos or surveys, openings that can be used as surprise weapons. My idea is to play these openings in long games so they have to be at least playable (not shit like the grob). I'm looking forward to your suggestions!

thx really wow

MrLogician

I'm thinking about play English opening with white

chessrook_80

Try the jobava attack- 1.d4 d5 2 Nc3 Nf6 Bf4.

The bird opening is also a good choice .

the bird seems like a good try

@Leo_C The bird is a good try. I play it myself occasionally. However, you have to consider what to play against the sharp froms gambit 1.f4 e5. And perhaps dutch with black. The bird and dutch have much in common happy.png

@Thunderstruck68 I have 1973 fide but have had 2057, I will mainly try things like The bird vs 1700 players or so.

Tja Leo!

Play 1.e4 and go for the anty theory lines.

1...e5 - play the Vienna with 3.Bc4

1...e6 -  play the Reti Gambit

1...d6 (Pirc Defense) - Austrian Attack (I said no theory but this will be the exception)

1...d6 and 2...e5 - Enter the endgame

1...d6 and 2...Nf6 with 3...e5  - Also enter the endgame

1...c5 - Closed Sicilian, either the Spassky or you can even try to be creative with Nh3 or Nge2

Wait. Do you really play the Alekhine? What do you do against this line?

Drawgood
You should just read about or watch the videos on openings with a, b, g, and h pawns. And openings that start with either knight.

To be fair, the edge lawn openings are useless against skilled players except maybe the polish opening that is b4. But you can experiment and stuff.

I will only play crap against 1700-players and lower

GOOD. I also liked that line in the Alekhine, more calmed and you are not getting rekt.
