why do we need more GM's, the site is great as it is. I might not want to say this, but who cares about ICC? GO CHESS.COM
NO GRANDMASTERS!!!! NO PLAYERS!!!!!

I heard that half the world's grandmasters have an account on ICC. The reason is that ICC gives free membership to Grandmasters. Maybe Chess.com can do that too?
Then ICC is just promoting the illusion that all of these GM's play there, simply because they have an account. Signing up for something that's free and actually actively using it are different matters. And before someone flames me, yes I know that *some* of them do use their accounts.

That right ?! with ICC you only get 2 weeks free member, what a load of rubbish, Chess.com 1 - ICC 0

THis site is fantastic.Who are those guys who want to play against grandmasters? Are they so good players?

I am with vagamundo, I don't want to get my but whooped by GMs all the time, I want to play fun games with people who are even with me on playing strength. I agree with you bgianis, if you people want to play GMs you better be some player if you want to stand a chance.

kco, yet you and me pay anyway. but if ICC wants to have tons of GMs that can join for free and they charge us regular people after 2 weeks, not my problem

The command line interface of both ICC and FICS is a dinosaur. When chess on the Web didn't exist or had problems, FICS and ICC were good and reliable. Now that Web chess interfaces are rock solid and have lots of features, people new to online chess don't want to spend time poring over a help manual to find out how to do even the most basic things.
I suspect that the GMs on ICC (and other die hards) stay there out of nostalgia and habit. However, the future of online chess is on the Web, so sooner or later, they too will make the change.
GM's have learned the benefits of anonymity.
