No Shield of Weakness

We can all agree that life gives us much opportunity to evade and hide from our failures and weaknesses. As a result we become stagnant. In chess you face your weakness head on ,with no other  alternative  than to conquer them. I like to think that when we play chess, we learn lessons about ourself. Our determnation, tenacity, intelligence and personality are all put to test and through our wisdom we get to evaluate them to improve the weaker aspect. Chess is a game of the strong. Its an arena condensed on a board.

Very well said!  It definitely tells us a lot about ourselves - as well as about others who moan on these forums about players who don't grant a rematch, who claim their opponents must be cheating to beat them, etc. - who don't admit and address their own shortcomings but blame them on others.
