These are black and white lacquered. The set has a Middle Eastern vibe to it(hince "The Sultan"), think 'Staunton' mixed with the movie Aladdin. Fairly subtle differences from a standard staunton, but still a very pronounced uniqueness. It comes with 2 separate finials(the thing in the top of the king's head), to 'play out' 3 different settings, a Christian king vs a Christian king. An Islamic king(Sultan) vs an Islamic king, and an Islamic king vs a Christian king.
