I know for a fact there are English who call it soccer.

They would get laughed at and their opinions wouldn't be taken seriously by any fan.

Canada was a country until a few years back when it became the 51st state.

Since the word "Soccer" is an English invention (short for "Association Football"), it would be odd if they never used it.

Well, I can tell you you'd spend years in pubs before hearing an Englishman call it soccer.

The Pilgrims were English.

So? The name originated in England by an Englishman.  The pilgrims have nothing to do with this.

Just because it originated in England doesn't mean the association of it is English is my point. We don't use the term.

Be nice to the English. At one time they ruled half the world. Now all they've got left is football and 'proper' English.
