It's called descriptive notation.
Every file has a name, the a file is the QR File, b = Qkt, c =QB, d =Q, e = K, f=KB, g = KKt, h =KR.
So, 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 would be
1 P-K4 PK4 (the ranks are always counted from the perspective of the player whose move it is)
2 Kt-KB3 Kt-QB3

Descriptive notation was used throughout chess history as the mainstream notation until recently Propapanda, while it is different than algebraic it is not neccesarily retarded!
I am trying to read Bobby Fischers most memorable games, but it is not in algebraic notation. It is in a different notation. What is the notation called and how do I read it?
