Number of Moves

What is the average number of moves per game or what number of moves should we be aiming for? Do you think that a high number of moves reflects on your playing style in a good way or bad way? Thanks

Dragec

Why would you aim at certain number of moves?

High number of moves might mean that you prefer slow positional games rather than quick attacking ones.

It might also mean that you usually play opponents of a similar rating, otherwise you or your opponent would probably win sooner.

And it can also mean that you prefer to play the game till the end, sometimes one might prolong a losing game by a 10-20 moves Cool

Interesting, I was just wandering if they was a considered number of optimum moves.

So much depends on the type of position and the strength of your opponent it really isn't possible to have an optimum number.  Longer games tend to be more equally matched opponents and endgames while very short games are either all or nothing style or an over matched opponent.

I tend to be most proud of wins <30 moves.  But some opponents will play on further in lost positions, and it depends on the nature of the game.  Over 50 is long to me.

Average for me is between 25-40 but my longest was 105

Hi fellows. . . just registering. .

So, then, what would you say of those "mini.games", called gems, played by outstanding players in something like 15/20 moves?

Is it that one of them made a terrible blunder?

So long

I've heard them called miniatures, but not gems.  And yes, if there is ever a game in 15-20 moves, it's because one side made (at least one, probably lots) of (terrible) blunders.
