Okay admit it, Carlsen Caruana is a borefest.

Nice rule (especially considering game 12) would be getting rid of handshake draws before time control at 40 moves. After today I'm a Fabi supporter on Wednesday.

Ah ok, didn't see that watched the vid till a bit before that, but even still he doesn't make a big fuss over it, the main points they're making is about it's effect on chess, and on the players competing mainly.

I don't mind faster time controls. Over 2 hours for each side in total is plenty IMO.

Chess at the top human level is no longer the cutting edge science of the game. We have engine matches and centaur matches for that. Chess at the top level today is more like sport. It's a performance, and performances often have errors.

I'm also fine with 960 but with the limitations I describe (select 10 or 20 good positions from the 960 and set them as that year's positions).

I have to agree with JayeshSinhaChess - when the 2 top ranked people in chessworld square off for the title I expected to see at least one.. (1) slugfest out of the 12 game match-up. Sure, the stakes are high, the title is prestigious. To use a often quoted boxing analogy "You have to beat a Champion to be a Champion". To this extent I place the onus upon Caruana to bring it, or force the action.

In my somewhat biased appreciation of Fabi's steady approach and preparation for this match, I think he chose to play it safe. While he may yet persevere.. An opportunity has slipped by!

Magnus Carlsen should be absolutely ashamed of himself. Can you imagine Fischer or Kasparov offering a draw in that kind of position.

No heart whatsoever. No competitive drive. He should be stripped of his world champion title regardless of the result of the tiebreak

I'm really disappointed that Carlsen offered a draw when he did. He wasn't winning, but he had a comfortable position and more time on the clock.

Kenneth Regan, an IM and statistician, said that the first 11 games of the match were played at an average elo rating level of 2875. I think that makes this the strongest match in human history. Certainly, both players have brought their "A" game, despite the disappointing draw in round 12.

best of 12 does feel too short, 20 or up too long, sweet 16 feel just right

If I draw someone 12 games in a row, I'm not going to walk away thinking "I wonder which one of us is better"

Just saying.

Don't forget, this thread was started after game ten, probably one of the most exciting games not only of the match, but of the year.

"I think I have very good chances obviously but I don't know what's gonna happen," Carlsen said. "Before today I thought getting a tiebreak would be a good result so I am still happy about that."

People are acting like this is such a big problem... I'm looking forward to the tiebreaks. Or is that too boring for you all as well?

No, it’s not subjective. These are chess players. Chess players love mathematical puzzles. There have been numerous statistical studies and several serious recommendations from professionals who have done their homework.

The stuff posted here is mostly amateur analysis, but the pros are also working to come up with improvements.

Okay look forward to the tie breaks. Today the bore part of the game will finish. A world Champion to be crowned its all worth looking forward to, and of course decisive results.

That being said if you look at the Rapid elos, Magnus is 100 points above Fabi. THat is a big adv however you put it.

Also Fabi's prep has been exceptional and who is to say he wont have some choice lines to shock Magnus with.

Magnus adopted caruana in the tie breaks do you understand the draw offer now Carlsen was a lot of  steps ahead of everyone like always
