On vacation

How long is somebody allowed to be on vacation for? I have an opponent who is losing against me, who last logged on on May 4 2016.

Depends on how much vacation time they have.

If it's this game: https://www.chess.com/echess/game?id=133453656 your opponent has 10 days of vacation left. Once that runs out, he will lose on time.

That vacation rule should be abolished...

I have never understood the mind set of:  "Ill show 'em for beating me...Ill go on vacation and make them wait for the win!"

It makes as much sense as letting the clock run out instead of resigning.

Thanks guys. I'm just so bored with having an unfinished game hanging around. Why does Chess. com allow such a ridiculously long break from a game?

It happens and sooomething we have to accept.  A guy im playing hung a rook and went on vacation.  It happens...Im on here every day so it doesnt matter to me.

If the game is hopelessly lost, say a mate that isn't quite forced but requires shedding of material, then it may be possible to get the site to adjudicate the game by opening a ticket (for vacation abuse).

That said, it looks like your opponent only has 10 days left right now, so unless they get on and move soon you'll get a win. It will likely be more than 10 days since players get additional days each month but probably won't be much more.
