Online chess players

don't go there my friend about Australians being criminals
Now just to answer your question, the ratings measure your "competitiveness" against a pool of players.
Now suppose you live in an MARS. Martians have their own rating system. if all the players are non-chess challenged players like myself you are going to have a high rating because you are the best. I believe this is the case here.

If you can not see the offense in the comments you have made, maybe chess is not the game for you. You could try rugby; no gentlemanly conduct expected whatsoever.
TONIGHTONLY,
I take exception to the rugby comment, but that another ball game.
I'm sorry. I don't really understand.

You are just enforcing the sterotypical view of Americans with that comment, and as such, you are doing your fellow citizens no favours whatsoever.
I, on the other hand, am British, and I know for a fact (my source is history, not hollywood) that Australia was settled by the British because Cook thought it would make a damn fine penal colony.
The Brits and the Auzzies have been at each others throats ever since (mainly sport, where they kick our ass) but always in a good natured way.
I am amazed that you admit to remembering anything about 'The Princess Bride'. Maybe you should get out more often or read a book. Crazy I know! Try it

"You are just [re-]enforcing the sterotypical view of Americans."
Good lord! I can only hope that's not a stereotypical view of anyone, let alone Americans.

Well i dont think all americans are like that i have met some good poeple from there this guy just looking for a bite a reaction thats all .But i still hope he does well and we see how good he is later......

That's the funniest comment of the year

Snobby?
If I'd referred to you as an oik then you could level that criticism at me.
I am well aware of the major part the US have played in the last two wars, and I for one am eternally grateful.

Okay, no angry responses please, but I have to ask the question. Are there any good online chess players on this site? I do not mean that to sound arrogant but I have not been challenged at all so far. I just easily beat a guy on here rated over 1800(Ret was his name I think). I play in tournaments and at a local club so I am not a master. Is the rating system here that far off from real world ratings? The higher rated people won't play me because my rating is to low and the people rated lower are awful so far. I just had a 9 move win against a player rated almost 1500!
The openings for the those I have played are erratic at best. Players seem to rely on crazy openings instead of accepted opening lines. This is not to insult anyone and I don't expect a challenge from a high rated player, I just really want to know where I can find a good match.
I agree. I sometimes play better standard 1 minute games on playchess.com than 3 day per move games here on chess.com. I love chess.com dont get me wrong, but likewise i havnt had a really close battle yet. On opening theory, i dont think anyone has played many book moves against me yet. I am fairly handy with opening theory but everyone has branched off too early for my enjoyment, ah well. Hey, chess.com is my fav site at the moment and the ratings may seem a little off to say the least BUT! after players have played a substantial amount of games their rating will become a better reflection of their real standard. If you want to play a 'real' 1800 player play one who has played many many games, theres more chance he/she will be stronger than someone who has played 10-12 games with 1800 rating.
Take it easy and keep it friendly.
