Petrosian, the greatest World Champion ever :)
Online chess should not be rated

Sorry to change the subject, but I just thought of something clever to say about the original topic:
My games should be rated R for Graphic violence and (Lots of) adult language.

Clearly the only true measure of chess skill is bullet.
It makes for shorter world championships.

"One of the keys is to study all of my games and treat them like they were a normal time control."
Well, yes, if you deeply study a game you can get a lot out of it. But doing that with a blitz game is just a worse version of doing that for a long game, imo. And I think long games give you a better diagnosis too because you see your understanding play out to its logical conclusion, and then you can see what was wrong with it. In blitz it's like, you make a blunder, and you just say, don't do that next time. It's like juggling 9 balls at once never having juggled before, and telling yourself, just try not to mess up again and you'll eventually do it.
Once again I find Elubas to be quite intelligent, and I tend to agree with his idea's on this thread.

I never bother analyzing my blitz games unless it seems someone has used an opening trap. In this case, I just want to see what the solution is so I don't get caught by it again.
It seems a little pointless since the main point to success is just avoiding serious blunders and exploiting the serious blunders of your opponent rather than deep strategy and positional play.

I analyse Carlsen's games instead of my own.
I don't consider myself a good enough player to learn much from Carlsen's games. Some GM with a clearer, more lucid style (like Fischer), OK...

If online games weren't rated... how then would I find an opponent who plays online chess at roughly my level?
Another thread so daft that it hurts.
As daft as it its, it still manages to hang on for 6 pages now.
Really sad people can't put their energy into more useful threads.
Who is that in your profile pic Eric?
