Online chess, time to make a move

If you play online chess 3 days per move and you actually take 2-3 days per move, meaning the game can take months, is that disrespectful of the others time? The tendency to play fast is always there, at least for me but I know that the more time I take to make my move the better I play.

Would this piss people off? I mean if they play a 3 day per move game why would they right? They agree to it kinda..

What do you think?

Sound like correspondence is not for you or your style.

You make no sense kco

Well when 2 people agree to the 3 days move that what is it, they can use the whole 3 days to make a move, don't forget the players have other things to do in their real life, so they can't always be on the computer every day.

that's what I meant, so even if it goes on for months, that's ok right? I am ok with it just wondering if it makes people upset. they can always resign and loose points :D

If they get upset, they will have ask themself, what the hell did they sign for in the first place.

There is nothing disrespectful in taking 2-3 days per move. And if someone gets pissed off that's his problem.

Yes, nothing disrespectful, as my Swiss buddy said. It's only wrong if you delay clearly (-w-r-o-n-g-) lost position to its end. Unless you legitimately believe it can still be a stalemate.

Certainly you have the right to take that much time but most people don't.  I certainly don't get upset when someone  takes the maximum amount of time for each move, but I don't play them again either.  Taking 3 days to reply to forced sequences like recaptures or well known opening lines is just silly.  On the other hand a lot of my games are over and done with in less than a week so you probably shouldn't listen to me.

It’s fine. There’s no reason for people to get upset. After I make my move I forget about the game until I see that it’s my turn again. It doesn’t make a difference whether it’s after an hour, 3 days, or even a 2 month vacation.

I accepted an open seek for a 14-day-per-move game, and the guy usually took about 14 days to make a move.  At first I was a little irritated that the game was moving so slowly, but I reminded myself that I agreed to those time limits, and there were other games to play.  So if one game moves extremely slow, I just start others with quicker time limits.
