Online Chess V Live Chess

Hello,

I do not know if this topic has come up before or not.

When I am playing live chess if a person makes just one move and the other person responds with it his own move, If for some reason one of the players does not make another move (if it his  move) and the clock runs out then the person that should have made his move will loose points while the other person will gain the points.

On the other when I play on online chess they seem not go with the same rule. For example if I was on black and white made just one move and I responded with my move. Hence it is now up to the person on white to make the next move but if he does not and the time runs it seems and it has happened to me that I did not get the points. So is there some rule that there must be a certain number of moves by each player on online chess before the time runs out before a player will gain or loose the points depending on the situation

Thanks

There is a limit of 4 moves in both Live Chess and Online Chess. Before then, the ratings won't change.

Thanks for this I appreciate it. But you think when a player starts and both players make a move and the another person responds with no other moves  then you would  think the person that does not play the next move before times runs out he/she  should loose the points because he started the game and hence is only wasting peoples time. Are these the normal rules in chess out site this site. I am new to the game.

Are the rules posted on this site.
