Online vs physical game timing

Hi folks,

I have upcoming tournament which will last 10 min per player per game. As I am not familiar with face-to-face games timing too much, I wonder how online time compare with real time.

As you are doing physical moves with hand and u have to press clock each time, my guess is that ratio should be around 1:3, though it is just guess.

So 1 min online equals 3 min over table chess. Any thoughts which would confirm or argue this opinion. I don't want to run of time and make sensless moves at the end because of time pressure or be too fast on the other hand and miss good moves.

I generally spend twice as much time hitting the clock as making my move so a 1:3 ratio sounds good.

I can press a chess clock in well under a second after making a move, so I don't agree with your ratiosSmile
