Only Houdini finds the answer.

Here's a chess problem that confounds the top two engines - Stockfish and Komodo. But Houdini finds the answer within a couple of seconds. Check it out now!

Here's the analysis by the three engines after 30 seconds -

You can see that Houdini shows that white is clearly winning with a score +16.39 whereas Stockfish and Komodo are stuck at 0.00.

This position makes me think whether Houdini is actually a better choice for analyzing games over Stockfish and Komodo.

Can someone try this position on your computer? On my machine, SF and Komodo are at 0.00 even after 40 minutes of evaluation. But Houdini has already found a forced mate.

My copy of Chessmaster 9000 ("The King" chess engine) can't find anything either. It says that the position will end in a perpetual check by Black with best play.

What is the solution? I can't see a forced mate!

You're right. This was a composition by Lazard (1928)

You can also see that all the critical moves are forced in that line.

What an absolutely brilliant combination! I can see now that moves 4, 5 and 6 are the crucial ones, since they entomb the Black Queen. I didn't even think of trying that - I've never seen a puzzle like it to be honest.

"The King" is an absolutely terrible ancient engine - it suggests 1. f6? as the first move instead of 1. Kg6! Wow. I wish I had Houdini...

You're right. Komodo finds mate in 25 after 10 seconds with pruning turned off.

I've heard Houdini is still very strong at Blitz and therefore probably is a good "quick" analysis engine where you keep the engine on for a matter of lets say 20 seconds, instead of 20 minutes, or even 20 hours.

There isn't some kind of UCI setting for Stockfish7 that can emulate this?  Sorry for my ignorance, I barely know the settings, I just turn the engines on mostly with their default settings and then let them go with brute force.
