There's nothing wrong with Bf4. Who told you it's bad?

White just doesn't have all that much in this line, regardless of how he handles it. Playing Bf4 does invite exchanges after Black's Bd6, and exchanges are in Black's favor... on the other hand, the dark-squared Bishop is Black's better Bishop.

REAL men... coarse, hairy, knuckle-dragging brutes... play the Najdorf as Black.

I'm studying openings 🤢

Just gonna ask my opening questions here when idk the answer

First question. I usually play the below. But I've heard it's inaccurate. Why is this? I know it's because you usually wanna play Bg5 and that's not possible here but it doesn't seem like a big deal to me 😭 is the pin really that important?I'm just trying to avoid the noteboom

You can play 4. Nf3 or e4. Nf3 is a nice waiting move.

The mating attack line is fine but as soon as you start to face strong players they won't go into it. Anyhow after Ne7 it's drawish, with the pieces often coming off fast.

I play d4 openings to get my opponents into trouble around move 20. As you get stronger and learn different types of attack like the Greek Gift, you'll know what I mean.

Opening book + database says it's dubious

I usually play for an e4 break in online chess but am too scared to do this OTB so usually do a minority attack on the queenside instead

The e4 break works great online but OTB I'm scared of c5 and my d4 pawn gets really weak afterwards

I'm not really having much success in the minority attack plan though so ig I need to change things. Might as well try out the 4. e4 line and see how much luck I get in that

I hate endgames.

My study plan rn is:

1 day Sterren (openings)

1 day Aagard (positional play)

1 day Yusupov (everything)

Then play OTB on weekends. I'm doing Sterren on Thursday so I'll probably update with new questions then. My openings are fr 1500 level

That level of skill (and balls) is far beyond me I'm afraid.
