you know what is funny, is that my opening usualy goes well, It is normaly in the middle game where i make an elementary blunder and drop a rook and a handful of pawns, or something of that nature

That suggests you've just memorized opening lines and once you're out of book you don't know how to deal with the resulting positions. It's easy to blame "elementary blunders" on a lack of tactical skill, but tactics flow from a superior position. If you keep finding yourself in bad positions where you're vulnerable to numerous tactical shots, then no amount of tactical training is going to fix that

My advice: put away the opening books, close the databases, shut down Rybka and, from move one, try to really understand the game of chess you're playing.

Believe it or not, I dont have any of those things, only stockpiled random knowledge, but those blunders happen far into the middle game not immediately as it commences.  my endgame is fine, though I miss mates in 4 or 5 most times.  sorry if my last post came off the wrong way

Ok, my mistake. My new advice is to be disciplined...if you haven't calculated the consequences of a move to the best of your ability, then don't make it. Simple Smile

yeah I should have clarified that earlier, my mistake. not yours, because there was a point when I did over do opening study (with wikipedia of all thingsWink)

but both tidbits help, because they hammer calculation, not memorization, To play a move, one must have a legitamate reason, other than say Kaspy plays it
