I've been studying a couple openings but the videos take a while and i start losing interest what are some good documentaries to watch?
openings?
Study and learn the Opening Principles:
Control the center - the most active part of the board.
Develop towward the center
Castle
Connect your rooks
So you're bored w/ a short video, but you want to watch a chess documentary? Mmm my advise is to just read about opening principles before memorizing openings. . .the center is very important in all noteworthy openings. So just look up opening principles and read a simple article w/ diagrams. You can read at your own pace then :)
Owning the center of the board is like owning the highway.
Chess has 2 highways(roads)
If you own both highways you can travel were you want to alot faster than if you didn't.
For example:
If someone is attacking your king on the right side and you own both highways you will be able to use the highway to travel all your pieces to the right side of the board faster to defend your king.
If you don't own the highways than when they attack your king on the right side you will often lose because you have no defensive resources that can reach your king to help.
Very strong chess players try to at least own 1 highway. Than after they do they try and take over the other high or prevent there opponent from using their highway.
The 2 highways on the chess board are:
Light Squares and Dark Squares
how important is it to control the middle of the board?
