"what are your opinions on how the games that these openings lead to are played."
++ It is all playable up to IM level. 1 c4 is very good and has been played in world championship matches.
"can 1.c4/1.c3 be considered closed, or is it usually more open then 1.d4? Can 1.f4 be considered open like 1.e4 or is it closed?"
++ It all depends on how black responds. 1 c4 can result in a reversed Sicilian. 1 c3 can result in a reverse Caro-Kann or a reverse Slav Defence, but also a London Opening or a reverse Dutch Stonewall Defence. 1 f4 is a reverse Dutch Defence.
"Can 1.f3 have any chance of not being the laughing stock of chess openings along with rook pawn openings and Ammonia and Salt Attacks?"
++ There is no such thing as a laughing stock. White can afford a lot. Even at IM level 1 f3, 1 Na3, 1 Nh3 are playable. Even 1 a3, 2 h3 is playable at master level.

When I say flank pawn, I am referring to a series of 4 openings.
1. c4 - THE ENGLISH
1. f4 - THE BIRD
1. c3 - THE SARAGOSSA
...
And everyones least favorite, the bane of GM Ben Finegold
1 f3. The Barnes.
