A few weeks ago I was in Bozeman, Montana volunteering for some overnight shifts as a traveling associate for work ( I work at Wal Mart ). While there I was excited to find about a dozen chess boards on the shelf in the break room. I don't get to play OTB much, so I was very excited for the chance. It was a lot of fun. I won a lot of games and lost quite a few as well. There was a gentleman there from Norway who was really tough. I managed 5 losses and a draw. The last game I should have won as I was up a rook and 3 pawns, but I let myself get over excited and blundered both of my rooks. I played 3 games against a man who had been playing almost as long as I have been alive and managed two wins against him. It was a fun time and I enjoyed being among like-minded individuals with a love for chess.
I'm posting a couple pictures. The first just of a bunch of us guys enjoying the game. The second of a final position when my opponent, who is obviously way better than me, resigned. I was quite proud of that game.
Anyway, I figured this might remind people of why we play. Enjoyment. It's easy to get caught up in ratings, winning, and competitiveness, but at the end of the day, I play because I LOVE this game.
Good vibes to everyone. 🙏
