is anyone else besides me incredibly frustrated with the poor performance OTB when compared to playing online.

i just played a second round game last night in a tournament, and i've noticed that without the analysis board of chess.com i really really suck. i'm sure it isn't only me, so i'm trying to figure out how to overcome this disparity.

My experience is just the opposite.  It's really tough to care as much about an online game as it is a tourney game.

Quit using the analysis board.

Analasys board makes life easy, the whole point in chess is for you to see the positions in your head and calculate them, not just to check it out on board. Analsys board is like you come to somebody in an OTB game and say: can i move the pieces on the board for a second to check what would happen if... etc.

Definitely quit using the analysis board. Also, play slow time control live chess instead of correspondence. I think you will find the average OTB player is more serious about the game than the average player you encounter online.

I'm in the process of weaning myself off the analysis board too, for the same reason- my OTB play was pretty terrible compared to online (and I'm not even that good online!).

You're fine. :) Just learn and have fun!
