Over the Board game tips

Hello Comunnity ! This week I will be playing my first rated over the board game and I wonder if you have any tips. I usually play blitz over chess.com so I guess the main difference would be time ( 1 hour or so seems to much time to think) but I wonder if you have any wise tip to share.

If you enter a rated OTB game and think that 1 hour is too much time to think, you really need to either cut out the blitz and play longer time controls, or not enter yourself to play rated games if you think it will be a waste of time.

Thanks for the tip. It seems too much time because I never played a game that long. ( that's the part of "my first time over the board game) and may be the time is longer I have have to check the tournament information. Thanks for taking the time to write

Thanks DeirdreSkye! So good sleep, light food and try to not get too emotional. The last part would be difficult but I hope I win and not get carried away :).

Rise-Against

Be sure to report back with your performance, win, lose, or draw; the experience is what matters.

If your opponent tries low physiological tricks, starring at you in certain ways, refusing a handshake, etc, then ignore them if possible. I've struggled in tournaments due to my opponent throwing me off guard.

Don't forget to do a blunder check or safety check before making your move. Also, don't forget to hit your clock after your move.

I actually think the main thing is to get lots of sleep, eat a good breakfast, maybe light morn exercise, and try to feel as healthy as possible that day. I noticed if I go there feeling good that morn then my performance is better.

Having played the first game I have to say. Good sleep was a very nice tip cause I couldn't sleep that good and during the game I felt tired. I had my snack and lots of water ( but going to the toilet a lot is a problem). Hitting the clock was specially difficult and at some point I had to double check if I have pressed it (cause I forgot to do it a couple times). Also playing slowly, I kind of blitz my early moves and was loosing a pawn at move 6 or so, so I struggled to calm down and try to play better and calm. Writing down moves was very difficult I barely recognize my own handwriting so if I manage to reconstruct the game I would post it. The playing area and the players seems a bit intimidating to me and during the game I felt my oponnent tried too much to win the game ( he was rated almost 1900) and had to play the game to the end (draw). So It was hard, intimidating, exhausting, nerve breaking but at the end I manage to survive my first Over the Board Game. Thanks all for your tips

DeirdreSkye hope my first win comes very fast! Next game I will be more alert in the clock that's really different of on line playing
