Overflooding of the Chess.com Database:

Sort:

Especially in 2023, Chess came into interest to many people. They started using Chess apps more, and especially Chess.com. Since then, the database has been flooded so much that entire servers have crashed. On January 18th alone, the number of games played peaked over almost 31.7 million. The real question is now, what is Chess. Com's response to this? They really haven't been posting much on this topic.

Poor? You don't understand the tactic that is being played here.

You're right. I don't understand. I'm so confused I'm about to give up trying to understand this. I like your airline analogy. We're getting bumped from our seats with these overloads. I was responding to "They really haven't been posting much on this topic" with my "Poor Martin" comment. I should have quoted that.

They've made several official statements.

Would you prefer more posting or working on the problem?

They also posted some notifications on social media about the loads on January 11th. Yes, it would have been great to also have that information formally posted on site at the time. I have suggested to staff that similar information posted to social media sites also be posted here at the same time in the future.
