Overlooking that an attacking piece is undefended

When an opponent's piece is threatening to capture one of mine, sometimes I'm missing that the attacking piece is not defended and can simply be captured.

Anyone else have this problem?

I know as I improve and play more advanced players, this will occur less frequently.

From what I've seen, everyone has at least one big issue they have to overcome in the beginning of their chess journey. When I was even more of a noob than I was now, my issue was that I would sometimes forget the king can capture and be an attacking/defending piece in general. Occasionally, this would lead to downright absurd blunders in situations where my king was seemingly in danger and the obvious solution was to just take the undefended piece right next to it...and I would proceed to do anything but that.

So recently in a daily game, I anticipated 10 possible replies to a move and placed them in conditional moves. The one line I did not was the King simply taking the piece. Yes, it happens.
