...one more thing is this, there would be unpaid to play tournaments as well but for those who feel they want to pay to win you are welcomed.
Paid Tournament needed!!
i smell a scam..... why should one pay to play a tournment internet chess game. If u noted that the players will play face to face i might be getting my checkbook out

It's a neat idea, but as quny said, it gives people incentive to cheat. I know that I for one would not be willing to gamble actual money on a chess game against a computer, and there's no reason why that wouldn't happen.

What would be the point of a paid online chess tournament? No legit players would participate and there is too high of a risk of cheating personas. I think we should enjoy the free online chess tournaments given to us on Chess.com and not worry about gambling! If you want to earn some money off chess, go join the USCF or FIDE?

It's a terrible idea, because it would encourage cheaters to join chess.com. A site called playe4 that already does this--you can join if matching wits with copies of Rybka3 and CogniSafe anti-cheating software appeals to you. Small, non-monetary prizes such as chess.com t-shirts or 1-month account extensions would be a better idea. :)
To register i think one should have a paypal account.
Thanks.
This is pointless and I wouldn't do it.
Wouldn't participate in paid tournament anyway because cheating would be impossible to stop or even slow down.
Off topic - Biggest reason that I haven't joined as a paying memeber is that I am strongly opposed to auto-renewing yearly charges. As an IT professional, I am well familiar with the reasoning (the scam) but make very few exceptions. I do have a number of monthly reurring internet based charges, but different situations and allowed for different reasons. The best and most up-and-up method for yearly renewals is to have the login page display the expiration date of the account. Every time the user logs on, they can see exactly when their account will run out. If they are using the site regularly and it is providing value, they will renew at a very high conversion rate. If they are not using the site much and not getting value, membership simply expires. They don't get screwed on the auto-renewal.

As an IT professional I wouldn't call it a scam, it's only a scam if you can't easily cancel it, if you manage your money properly and your debits, it's not going to sting you, especially for the paltry fee for the site and what it gets you in terms of chess tools. On the scale of things it isn't particularly bad when compared to things such as sites that offer you a free trial then charge you lots of money for a membership without telling you. Friends of my parents recently got stung by one of the big ancestry (not naming names, but it should be obvious) sites through this which has a ridiculously complex way of cancelling subscriptions.
Saying paid tournaments online won't work is silly. Online multiplayer gaming had the same issues when paying tournaments started up, but with it came a slew of very well coded (as well as some badly coded) anti-cheat software which has made it almost ok to play in these now (although the big finals are all held on location somewhere). With a pay to play tournament that happens every so often, finding a core of good admins and structuring it well, and policing individual games should lead to a fairly level playing field, it just needs a solid structure to start with.

It wouldn't work , somepeople would just join to win and cheat as much as they can , there's no control over this . Cheating happens now allready when it's suppost to be just for entertainment . Prices would be nice but leave it up to chess.com . Also there are tournaments for price money all over ,but never on the internet .live otb only .

We're saying it would encourage cheating. Anti-cheating software can keep pace with your typical low-life chess cheater, but not determined criminals after money. Unless you change the rules of the game and make it not chess--add extra squares, types of pieces, etc. Then you have a chance for some short period of time.

As an IT professional, I can say with confidence there's absoutely know way of stopping cheating in online chess.
If you want to play for money, join the CFC, USCF, or whatever CF your country runs. I hope to rejoin the CFC this year.

The idea of this is not to cheat please! i know a lot of minds are corrupt and we can stop this as said by "shakeje" - it never gonna be that easy but with the level of things going there's always a way to making sure its not a lot of a crime playing a paid tournament. The chess Admin can make decision on what plat form this would run and trust me it will be awesome especially playing your best when you want to play because something is at stake..
I think it would be nice for players to pay to register for a tournament where the winners would be given not just a troupy but a CASH too! Whoever is the administrator for any paid to play/win tournament would make an agreement with chess.com to oversee the games and award appropriate point to winners of each stage until a final winner is determined. Also, 10% of the fund would go into the chess.com account as a board fee. Hope this make sense and i look forward to seeing it start soon and don't hesitate to leave your opinon towards this idea.
