IM and GM titles are open to both genders and the requirements are the same.

You're probably thinking of female specific titles such as WIM and WGM which are a bit controversial.

There are no male only tournaments, including cycles to the world championship.  Women have always been, as you say, "free to pay under the same tent."  The only gender exclusive events are the ones that exclude men.

I think women should sart demanding to play against men in world champion matches and then we would have a real world champion.

no sense

Well, at least the title matches the content of the original post.

Bills,

there are no men-only tournaments that i've ever heard of. women do play in open events along with men, as well as, sometimes, in women-only events.

best,

Bills1943 -- I believe you took our topic, angle and suggestions out of context if you believe we were degrading women chess players. That wasn't our intention...

Our intention was exactly what we did: To bring attention to, and not shy away from this clearly controversial issue. I don't know if my opinions were right or wrong, and I am not sure anyone does. I believe BOTH men and women are divided on this topic (meaning I don't even think all the women chess players agree about whether or not segregation by gender is good for chess).

Have any male players filed discrimination lawsuits because they can't play in women only events? Or because they can't get a WIM or WGM title?

Where's the ACLU?  You'd think they'd be all over this issue since it's ok for women to play and compete for titles which were (once) exclusively male but no reciprocity for men.

We're not talking about a sport where gender makes a difference (for example track and that woman who was recently suspected of being a man).

What's next, gender testing for chess players?

There is a good old joke:

Q (asked by a young GM): what is the quickest way to become a top-10 player?

A: change your sex! Wink

I have been getting a lot of comments on a post that I made even though I was wrong about what I said. I still think when it comes to the world champion ships both male and female players should compete for the title.

If the female earns the right to do so, they can. There just aren't any females that high on the rating list atm.
