Pawn Storm with Castled Pawns

So I’ve been playing otb games in club matches. I’ve notice the 1800 players don’t really hesitate to push their castled pawns in a pawn storm.

I’ve always been under the impression not to expose your king when castled, but they’re winning with this technique.

How do you know when to push your castled pawns & attack your enemy’s castled king with them? Is it done more predominantly with white pieces or does that matter? Any rule of thumb to go by here?

If the centre is closed then you can consider castle-side pawn pushing but this isn't the only thing to consider and i'm not an expert in this..

if there are many other pawns that are already pushed, its pretty safe.

Magnus pushed his castled king pawn right at Naka's face in one of the first games here in the big chess.com match Jan 3.

So for specific signs to watch out for when debating on a pawn storm:

1) closed center

2) ?
