Pawn would not turn into queen problem.

Can someone with access help me? I was going to win, but for some reason my pawns refused to turn into queens or any other piece. This caused a draw that was undeserved. I was going to get 8 points but instead i got -1 because of this. I have not and will not play any games until its looked at. Just look up my last game, and you can see. I tried with two pawns but it didnt work.

This is very odd and suspicious, I think that you should report your opponent, since it looks like hacking to me.
Of course, chess.com has experienced many similar issues and glitches, so you should report a bug to one of the chess.com staff.

That's called stalemate. You haven't reached checkmate and your knight move left your opponent with no legal moves.

If you were playing in the middle ages, you might have won but the rules changed about two hundred years ago making it a draw.

If it was the game that notmtwain posted above, it was stalemate.

That isn’t the problem. Almost any player would just promote the f or g pawns into a queen

JamesColeman

Almost any player WOULDN’T play ...Nc6, and yet it happened.

Maybe if your a serious player. Im not and dont even know all the rules yet etc. I just learned about En passant for example.

JamesColeman

It wasn’t a criticism of you in any way...just pointing out it was a stalemate as opposed to any glitch etc.

No need to apologize. But you know damn well you pointed fun at my abilitythumbup.png. I have not taken chess seriously. i just recently started reading up on it and have slowly started to rise in points since.....slowly that is.

Good stuff. Onwards and upwards! happy.png

A stalemate is a situation in chess where the opponent has no legal move, yet the opponent king is not in check. In chess, this is ruled an immediate draw.

A good strategy to avoid stalemate is to ensure that the opponent king has at least two squares to move back and forth (there is no rule in chess which prohibits a king from shuffling around a7 or a8 continuously, for example).

The first time I saw the position posted by notmtwain, I had thought that the White king was already in checkmate on 'h1'.

I dont know why, but this happened to me again in my latest game. Is there some software that could cause this issue? Maybe i need to fix or remove something on my system?

Seems like you lost in time. But in the other game, I have a question, were you trying to make two moves in a row?

Yeas i lost on time, but i could not promote my pawn to a queen. Im not really sure about your question.  Are you talking about my first comment? In that case, you can see it on the board posted. I moved up two pawns, but could not turn anyone of them into a queen.

Pulpofeira

I thought you were trying to move one of them after ...Nc6. So you moved the N because the pawns couldn't move?

Frupp

Yeas, exactly thats it. You can see after Ne5 that i was moving up my pawn, but i could not move it past G2, then i move my knight, and try to move up my other pawn, but again i cant get it past H2.

Frupp

Fixedthx, what does that mean?

GWTR
Perhaps you had the board upside down. If you were (unknowingly and accidentally) trying to go from h2 to h3, or from g2 to g3, that would've caused the issue. 🙄

This is not helping , happened to me a few times and there was a month I didn't play at all I was fed up with the situation . Couldn't promote the pawn , or it would promote only to bishop (? !)or like now ,pawn won't move /get promoted at all , is it a bug or what ?  Playing on the other phone without that problem .  Was  able to finish the games on the other phone correctly . But lost a few Menwhile . Yes and that happened  exercising with computer as well
