Pawns don't matter.

if you do hang a pawn make sure you have reason to do so. look up the poisoned pawn variation in the sicilian nadjorf if you want an example.

Thank you Urk. That was the best laugh of my day.

The overarching principle in chess is:
Winning chess is the strategically tactically correct advance of the pawn mass (the 8 pawns)
There are reasons for the principle:
1. The pawn structure is the mountains and valleys of the battlefield where the war is fought. You don't want to make a battle plan that calls for going thru a mountain.
2. Pawns cannot move backwards. That makes a pawn move permanent (a permanent change to the position.) Take great care before moving a pawn.
3. Pawn Breaks at strategic locations in the pawn structure very often determine when the opening ends and the middlegame begins. Pawn breaks are also the signals of where the important strategic battles are being fought. An important clue about where the good moves in the position are to be found. Pawn breaks are where 2 pawns are in mutual capture position. In other words, the White pawn can capture the Black pawn and vice versa.
Here is a tip for cutting way back on your blunders: sit on your hands when you are seated at the chess board table.
