I can see why prices are so low here. $5 a month x 100,000 some users, plus golds, platinums, and diamonds= $800,000 per month or, with yearlys included, $10,000,000 per year!

Ok, for all of you posting about whinners,...he's not whining he's just saying that he would have liked to know that they were going to take all the PGN files away with a notice instead of just taking them away, frankly i agree, i had so many games that i wish i could have downloaded but now i can't...or at least not unless i help chess.com out, which personally i'm happy with what i get for free, so i won't be helping them out...not that i dont' want to. i'm just satisfied with what they already give us as free members.  Once again i wish that i could've have gotten a notice before they took them all away...thanks for your time.

He is whining, because the site has clearly stated for months that the game archives would become a premium feature.  Erik and others also posted specifically when said feature would become premium.  He is whining because he chose to take no action to prevent what he knew was going to happen.

Not even close my slow witted friend. There are 100,000+ registered users, but only about 12500 or so have played more than a handful of chess games. Most of the premium features are geared towards people who play chess here.

The assumption that all members are paying is also false. Let's take a quick sample. Looking at the players list, out of the top 200 players only 14 are paying members (7%). I checked 10 random pages lower down the rating list and out of those 500 members there were only 15 (3%) who were paying members. I would guess roughly 5% of the players are paying members.

5% of 12500 is 625. Just to be generous, let's assume that they are all platinum memberships. Then you're looking at a shade under $50,000 for the year. Luckily for chess.com, it's a growing site with new features and an expanding membership base. I'm sure they expect to have more subscribers in the future.

I don't expect Erik to release actual membership totals, but it's really unfair to make a post claiming they are bringing in millions of dollars.

Thanks for the insults that is real mature, in any case I don' check the forums often I am here to play chess not read about peoples personal problems, what am I doctor ZZ, in any case all I am saying is I wish I could have gotten an e-mail or something or a giant alert over one of my chess games or just something because even if Erik God bless him said it fifty times I probably missed all fifty.  *sigh* In the end i doesn't matter chess has grown as a sad form of entertainment on my soul and even though I love the game there are circumsances that have quelled my thrist for fast fun play.   In the end you can say what you want but I would perfer if you didn't use labels, judge me, and spam me all at the same time.

Erik and the chess.com team have always been straight forward, about those areas that would be a extra cost to the individual.  Also you probably pay more for one lunch at work than one months first level upgrade.  Quit your crying and be an adult.

i am not crying o my goodness what is wrong with you people i was simply stating that I felt misinformed if I knew i would get a bunch of spam I wouldn't have said anything, why do I even bother?  Instead of intelligent social chess players I get a whole bunch of people belittling me?  What is wrong with you people, yes it would be less than a lunch whatever and yes the benefits would probably be worth the cost but that is not what I am talking about all I ment to state is tha I felt misinformed and I even commented at first that I may have missed the memo, which I guess according to all the flamers on here I did.
