The core basis of steely (you had to ask).

What's the core basis of dan?

Concrete?  Oh, and I think you misspelled dam.

He's not pussyfooting around. Dropping that queen gave him a huge strategic advantage.

Yeah, the psychological edge of your opponent thinking he has an easy win can be HUGE.

I think false confidence is actually a good thing.  Garry Kasparov would do that when he was losing.

Yeah.  In fact, if I was the one playing him, I would have resigned myself right after I took his Queen.  Cool

I do not think so. It is OK for people to resign in lost positions if the don't want to play.

The only problem I could see with people consistently resigning is never getting to see end-game technique. Maybe I'll learn at some point, but I don't usually resign even if I suffer an early 3-point loss.

If you want to learn to destroy an opponent during a 14-point lead end game, just play lots against a computer.

Quitting is losing. Rating differential is calculated the exact same as a loss. Why do you think there's such a difference? You got your rating points, now move on.

Wow, reading this post was the most interesting and comical thing I've ever seen. Does this happen all the time here, it was light entertainment at its best. I have to stick up for my fellow aussie, some people where a little harsh on the fellow. Is there going to be a continuing saga here?

I think the administrators should change the points system for people who resign halfway through a game because they are loosing and they know they can't win. I think they should be penalised heavy like a -50 to their ranking. That's my two bobs worth.

Judging by the consistent response to resignation threads...there is an audience for it.

scumdog:  that's how I got addicted to these threads...be careful.  I still remember the first evening...reading through five or six flame wars.  Better than tv times 10.  It rarely reaches that same high, but now I'm addicted.
