Hysterical or not I find it extremely annoying too.

The internet is a haven for the kind of people who become hysterical about nothing
I agree when it is nothing !
In any case I always like to put it out there and make the day of the forum's self righteous well adjusted police officers !

I built this thread to be hijacked...and no you can't have Gibraltar back !

We already got it back. But you were so busy with the Queen's birthday that you did not notice.

You can have the queen and the whole family..Give me Franco any day !
I'd give you all the Francos you want if that helped to make people stop talking about him.
COME ONE. HE HAS BEEN DEAD FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS!

But was he buried centrally in his plot !? Seriously though, he doesn't get talked about that much....

I don't need the pieces to be bang in the centre, but I expect them to be placed so they are not part situated on a surrounding square.
Chess OCD is quite common I have noticed. Some players may just have general OCD in every day life, and some I would imagine it will be specific to chess.
I like the Knights to point forwards. But many like to have them placed sideways. I really don't care about that, its my opponents pieces and they can have them facing either way as suits them. But mine.... they will point forward and opponents should respect and accept that.

William Hartston is an outspoken authority on using the flexibility of positioning pieces ambiguously between squares to give you more options and avoid nasty captures, deadly pins, forks and skewers. I mean it's not like he ain't got a point guys.

Presumably in his book "How to Cheat At Chess ?"
I can see merit in this. Another idea that comes to mind is this. Say you are white and are about to attack on the kingside. You could position all your pieces on the left border of squares and have your knights "pointing" NW to suggest a queenside attack. (A la Lao Tzu)

18 genius, as usual
then , to continue to cheat, suddenly u place them right in the middle, so you suggest NO side, ie TWO threats !

I don't like them pointing forward at all! it's a very aggressive stance. I would politely jadoobydoo the opponents knights sideways.
YES YOU ! The next time I have to adjust AGAIN , I will throw you out of the frigging window !
