people who except a challenge ,make two moves then stop playing, expecting you to

quit and so they win to push up there rating..... very very childlike

Ziryab

Perhaps they expect you to spell accept in the Queen's approved manner

In any case, in live I often abort a game becuase the game I intended to accept was not the game that started. I'll make an exception and play on if the time control is acceptable. If someone makes two moves then quits, I will add him or her to my blocked list.

Hermes3

Not that ratings really matter, but since you are playing with 10 minutes time controls, you can just wait till they run out of time. I would just open a new browser tab to do puzzles, or read articles.

Kernicterus

I guess you mean in Live Chess?    Yes, that is completely inappropriate.  Doesn't the game give you a win after 5 minutes?

Richie33

i did wait until the time ran out but even so it was rather anoying as i have a rather busy life and just steal a few hours here and there to play and so just want to play not p@~s about [smile]

I would separate them from available opponents using right-click, block member.

There's an old saying in Tennessee, I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee, that says "fool me once, shame on.. shame on you? .. fool me, can't get fooled again."

Richie33

wasnt a case of being fooled loomis it was a case of trying to be good natured and asuming the other persons computer was playing up or some such B.S. ..... and if im not very much mistaken your quotation may be a little higgledy piggledy and back to front [smile]

Loomis

Yes, you were good natured and got fooled once. Shame on the other guy. But 3 times? Shame on you.

(Yes, I know how the actual saying goes.)

Atos

A good idea is to use shorter base time and longer increments. That way if they stop moving the time will run out sooner.

lmfao.  haha.  that was funny Loomi.

Kernicterus

I had the same concept playing in my head when the OP mentioned this.  I don't know which one is more amusing...the person who repeated the con on the same victim or the victim going for it three times.  lol

Richie...did you win all 3 games when he timed out?

Loomis

I've had worse than that. I've had a player accept my seek 4 times in a row and abort each time.

What's happening here is that we are both seeking the same time control and being auto-matched with each other. The other guy apparently doesn't want to play me. I can't imagine it's personal since I had never interacted with him before, but if it's personal he should block me. And if it's not personal I imgine it must be a rating thing, in which case he needs to put the appropriate rating range on his seek and quit wasting my time.

Kernicterus

Aborting is one thing.  What the OP is describing is something entirely different.  Playing two moves and then waiting for the time to run...3 times...is absurd.

Loomis

Aborting once is ok, I understand sometimes people get into the wrong game by an accident, it's happened to me. If you're aborting 3 or 4 times in a row against the same player, you are doing something wrong.
