People who interrupt your concentration in online blitz

From time to time friends or family in the middle of my blitz games will try and engage me in conversation, to my dismay especially if the game is coming down to the wire and I'm trying to concentrate. I will inevitably get irritated to which they give me an incredulous look as if I'm the rude one for snapping at them. The nerve! I don't go up to golfers while they're in the middle of putting and ask them questions. That would be obnoxious. Same with bowlers, when they're about to release the ball, I shut my mouth...unless there is a bet on the game.  Does this happen to you when you're playing chess and do you handle it as poorly as I do?

frankly, i try to chat a lot in online blitz, if only to break my oponents concentration.

No, but have you tried wearing noise-cancelling headphones & blinkers ( - the type of blinkers that block out peripheral objects so you don't get startled).

lol

It use to happen to me alot,
But after phasing them out while playing...everyone got the picture :)

I understand the feeling,do not play blitz, but have made enough bad moves, and lost games faster when no one leaves me alone in middle of seeing if that is the move to make.

lol, I think I can top that.  I get distracted in anticipation of being distracted.  I just need to hear someone moving around or a door opening or closing and I'm distracted until I've satisfied myself they're not going to come and distract me!  Yell

When that happens to me, I try to remind myself that my sex life is more important than my rating.

Maybe.

But seriously, there is one thing I've found.  Do you spend a lot of time online?  If so, your family might not be able to tell the difference between the intense, time limited, activity of a blitz game, versus casual, easily interrupted, forum chats.  I've tried to make sure there's a difference, such as a closed door, when I don't want to be interrupted.

I've never lost an online blitz game when I'm home alone and my phone doesn't ring and the postman is not at the door with a package and my opponent has disabled chat and I don't have a cold and I'm not angry at one of Glenn Beck's ignorant lackeys, ...

I lose daily due to these and other interruptions.

There's a TV ad showing the consequences of just saying "yes" without listening to the question.

It happens to Me Alot so now I wait untill they go to bed to sleep to play chess online.

And if I play in the daytime I play Chess in My  Office room I set up for playing chess.  With 2 big stickers on the door, Authorised People Only allowed in the office.  and the Other is Keep your Noise Down.  Online Chess is being Played.

if them 2 don't work , put a bigger one on the door saying Beware of the Dog as he bites your head off (me of course the Dog)

But then if you upset the mrs and you play chess on a Dgt Chessboard Don't be suprized if all the 32 chess pieces gets super glued to your board.

Only One answer for that,  Divorce and a small claim court the following Day

Well, I just tell them to hold off for a minute or two while I finish the game, since I'm on short time controls. It's not difficult...
