I like to play cc games and Live games too(no blitz for me) and I'm allowed to use the ''tools'' while playing(as I don't study chess Yes it's a big + for me):openings database+books+notes+the analysis board but even if it helps my play while playing the game somewhere it's cheating(yes the big word).Am I too rigid?

PS. I don't feel guilty it's allowed.I'm just asking why it's cheating if you play OTB (face to face) and OK via internet chess (the virual face to face).Funny situation?Undecided

The days-per-move timescales in Turn-based chess mean that such games are fundamentally different from OTB; Correspondence Chess protocol (i.e. encouraging research using opening database, analysis board, books, Google, notes, confirm move, etc.) is more appropriate for such games.

Playing a slower game in live (like 30|0) is the closest thing on this site to OTB, and using these tools in live is NOT allowed.

In "Live Chess", where the game length is measured in minutes, not days, you're not allowed to use references of any sort. As artfizz said, "turn based" is like the old postal chess, played by correspondence rules.

Tricklev

Allowing books, databases and so forth would turn the sport into a equipment sport, and most of those already have problems related to the advancement of equipment, chess hardly needs that.
