It's going to take some getting used to but I'm fine with it. It does mean that I'm not sure what my  personal ratings goal of 1600 actually means now. Now that I've just achieved it (lol) is it still the 1600 I knew before?

The world champion is decided in classical because this is the best demonstration of how capable the players are of playing their best games. Faster time controls lead to lower quality games. What really matters is who is capable of playing the highest quality chess.

If results were determined by faster time controls, Caruana probably wouldn't even be top 100 and what a shame that would be. We would never even get to experience his brilliancy at full potential. Why compromise our game and make it lower quality? All I really care about is playing the best moves, and classical allows us to play our highest quality game.

Yeah blitz and bullet are cool, and I'm not saying one time control is "better" than another. However, if you are trying to determine who in the world is capable of playing the highest quality chess, it would have to be decided in classical because the players have the opportunity to play to their full potential. On that note, having rapid (real rapid) as a tiebreak I think is fair.

Yes that would be impressive, but the GM with 6 hours is going to win like 90% of the time, sorry to break it to you.
