Fixed it :)

Kittysafe

A little confused by move 8 on in this game https://picasaweb.google.com/kpowers101/AverillPowersChessGames2#5609329967520742130

PxP seems it could take one of two pawns, and can't tell which is being taken?

Kittysafe

Ah i think I fixed it, I messed up a move somewhere, now it makes sense.  Wow, I'm getting better at this :)

Kittysafe

Rofl< i feel pretty stupid, finally figured out the ch stands for check in descriptive ;)

Meemo

I'll try to do another one after work today, they are fun and instructive to play through.

Kittysafe

Meemo, that would be brilliant!  You are amazing.  I have 9 games up, so check to see which are finished, if you look on this page: http://powers.kittysafe.net click on the images on the right, and you can see which are completed.

THANKYOU

Kittysafe

I added the famous Dake game to the page as game #1, since that's the game most might know by Powers, in that it's been published in books on short game chess, and studied at length.  Beautiful game btw, I highly recommend checking that one out!!!

You can play it out on the website.

Meemo

I really like the way the photos of the score sheets come up alongside the game viewer. That's great.

Wow, that guy Dake barely had time to sit down! Smile

Here's the pgn for photo# 111:

I do realize the scoresheet of your grandfather's game against Elo (Game #7 on your site) ends at move #44, and that no result is listed, but that almost certainly has to be listed as a win for Black, I'm sorry to say.

Black's position is compltely overwhelming.  In fact, Black has a forced mate in four moves:

44... Bc3+  45.Kf1 Qd3+ 46.Qe2 Qxb1+  47.Qe1 Qxe1++

(I'm sure your grandfather would not want a draw listed, if he did lose.)

I looked for the longest game to convert.  It might be this 91 move monster.  (Image #100 and #101.)  Here's that game:

You guys are wonderful... this project bringing my grandfather's legacy to life has been truly rewarding and meaningful to me and my familly.  My grandpa had such a uniquely creative, open hearted, loving, playful, yet intensely disciplined way about him, it really shows in his chess, and you all have really helped bring this to life again for us and for that we are truly thankful.

If you look at GAME 7 on my site, click on game 7 and it errors, is there a 40 move limit?  There are 12 games up but errors somewhere are causing only 10 to show...

Here's the PGN file if someone could check it out for errors.

All 12 games show up and load fine for me.

Game #7 seems to have a problem with the final move for Black, Qxe1+.  That's checkmate, so technically the move should be written as Qxe1# or Qxe1++.   However, I find it odd that the java applet would be so picky about that.  (I also am surprised that applet is "smar enough" to realize that's mate.)

However, that would be the first thing I would change.  Try that and see what happens.

All other games load fine for me.  (Using Firefox, version 4.0.1)

gretagarbo

i did game 7  and it ended on move 43 for white according to the score sheet . Edcollins just gave  you the reason why it should be a loss for white. Those last moves shouldnt be in the pgn unless you want to show it as a comment.

Kittysafe

Beautiful.  Thank you.

Kittysafe
