Does anybody know where I can find a large free PGN database of mostly amateur players?

Knock yourself (and your bandwidth) out: http://www.ficsgames.org/

200M games.

Just out of curiosity... what are you going to do with that?

Thanks Tapani!  I'm creating a chess training website that focuses on identifying fundamental chess patterns as opposed to solving puzzles.  I want a database of amateur players because they ought to have a higher density of tactical opportunities to extract.

There are alot of tactical patterns in grandmaster games. They are just hidden in the variations...

Yes, they are hidden in the variations, which makes them harder to extract, since I'm replaying the games programatically and searching for particular patterns.  Having to test out variations would make it exponentially harder.  Some patterns however might be more common in grandmaster games, so I'll look into that as well.
