in  the  process  of  moving  a  piece  it  was  misplaced  due  to  the  physical

action  and  landed  on a   different  square  that  the  one  i  was  aiming  for. is  it  just a  case  of  bad  luck  or  can  the  game  be  made  void.  but  then  i  guess  no  ones  going  to  believe  me.  anyone  had  the  same  situation?

Unless you have a medical reason why you can't hold a piece properly, I'm afraid there is no reason for the tournament directors to be any different to you.  Sorry, but that has to be the move you made.

It has happened to me once. I was going to take an opponent's bishop with my bishop and my finger slipped from the mouse and the bishop was placed just in front of my opponent's bishop. I lost the bishop and the game.

When I started playing on here I did that a couple of times and it messed up my game, then I found out that I didn't need to drag the piece, just click on it and then click on the square I wanted to move it to. For some reason sometimes I have to click on the piece a couple of times but that's a lot better than placing it on the wrong square. However, once I was playing in live chess and my opponent "missdragged" and when I said to him to click to move he said that it didn't work, why it didn't work for him I don't know. Hopefully clicking instead of dragging will work for you.

I tested the clicking not dragging thing and it appears to work fine. But it is slower then dragging

 And less fun.

In OTB chess, if this happened I'd just let the person move the piece to where they intended.  I suppose if I ever played in a tournament, I wouldn't be so kind, though.

On chess.com, I think it's best to use the "Confirm move" option where you have to place your piece, then click on a button to submit the move.  Of course when playing blitz or bullet this may not work well when milliseconds count.  But for people like me who only play correspondence chess, it doesn't hurt at all to use it, especially when you mistake the main board for the analysis board!
