annoyed about aborted games

Twice this week, players have started games, accept the challenge, made a move or two and time runs out.  They have a loss on their record, but they do not lose points nor did I gain points.

I spent time online waiting for them, the accepted the challenge. Why should they not lose points and I gain points?

It seems like aborting is a good way to get out of a trap.

I guess it is technically not "aborting" -- it is letting time run out.

"Points" or rather rating is a measure of your skill at chess not being online. That being said there is a limit. Games over 3 moves that then time out affect ratings.

Resignations and withdrawals from zero moves and up affect ratings. For example this player withdrew from a tournament and was deemed to have resigned all his games.

Resignation #1 rating 1863 then resignation #2 rating 1817.

Why are thematic games allowed to be rated again?

Unfortunately, when you have a-holes who make a habit out of creating seeks like this where he begins the game with a winning position, you start to understand why the Abort option is important.

That is GREAT explanation.  I'll put with a ding dong once-in-a-while.

Thematic seems fair enough as, at least in the tourney I am in, you get to play both white and black, so it is fair.  If you win both playing the theme and defending against the theme, I guess you deserve the rating points.

I think if my rating was that high, I would pay attention!
