Planning on dedicating a month to improving in chess, How far do you think I'll get?

Improving 100 points in a month would be really great, and only possibly with hard work and a low rating.

If I worked hard for 1 year, maybe I could improve 100 points... but maybe not.

Low as in what? Honestly my rapid has been improving fast and I'm probably not working as hard as the OP... Just wondering what you think of it.

To be completely fair though you're definitely a bit underrated in rapid considering you're 1900+ in blitz and 2700 in puzzles

If you treat it as a job then I would be surprised if you didn't reach 1300. Good luck!

Sure, you gained something like 300 points in half a year. Some people do stuff like that.

But let's do some simple division. 300 points in 6 months is 50 points a month.

Op wants to do over 500 points in one month. That would be more than 10x faster than you.

And yes, lower ratings are easier to improve, because obviously tongue.png

Not good advice for the OP.

Just saying.

If he works at it, he’ll get somewhere.

Good luck to the OP. He certainly doesn’t deserve all the negativity pouring out here. He’ll learn how to learn as well along this journey.

OP, give it a shot. I went from 857 to 1280 within a month. Almost hit my targeted 1300 mark and I am a slow learner and player lol. Note in my profile “I suck”. So if you have dedication and a shred of talent; you’ll do well.

Also a great learning experience as well.

Forget about the naysayers and talking about it. Be like Nike “Just do it”.

Best of luck.

You were never rated 857.

A true rating appears as a bumpy but mostly horizontal line on the rating graph, which means you've played many games while maintaining that rating.

Your graph looks like the graph of someone who has been high 1100 to low 1200 the entire time.

I joined in December and started at the default ELO. Yes, started of with some wins and losses but by no means was I an established player. Definitely a beginner by definition.

My rock bottom was 850 and then a rating climb up to 1280 within January.

You can see my puzzles history that I had no tactics training at all. Wasn’t until I got a membership in March that I actually started studying and learning chess.

I know how the OP feels so I hope my evidence encourages you because a slow learner like me with no talent came very close.

And I was drunk the whole time!

Truthfully, if I was sober the whole time and not partying, I would of surpassed 1300. But man, I had a great time.

Love the drive to do this! I do think 1300 might be a little bit too much, but it would be awesome if you could prove me wrong. The best way to know how much better you can get is to just do it! Rooting for ya

Good luck!

Update! I crossed 900 in rapid today
Also been playing with a pretty high accuracy, which makes me feel like I'm improving a ton.

It really depends on  how long you study each day and what you study?

I was originally doing a lot of puzzles, but now I've switched over to opening study, and playing a bunch of games. It's been working great, and I know I'm playing well because my CAPS score has consistently been in the 80-95% range
