The names there are quite short. The longest I have found up to now is:

Grigory Alexandrovich Kushelev-Bezborodko

Avatar of goldendog

Alexander Konstantinopolsky

is pretty big.

chess.com has already answered this http://www.chess.com/article/view/records-in-chess

Lionel Adalbert Bagration Felix Kieseritsky http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lionel_Kieseritzky

actually funny that none of them are as long as the word for the fear of long words  Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia

I thought it was Octavio Figueira Trompowsky de Almeida

I can not find any clue that he was a grandmaster in his wiki it says chess player.

Lionel Adalbert Bagration Felix Kieseritsky
Octavio Figueira Trompowsky de Almeida

even if he is, the name from record is longer.

Alexander Alexandrovich Alekhine

p.s. The shortest name? well, if it's not some chinese wonderkid, it has to be Hans Ree.

Another Dutchman is in contention: Max U.

Yes, Max Euwe is seven letters but not his proper name: Machgielis Euwe.

Speaking of chesskid, the username generator on that site somes up with some really funny results. For those of you who aren't familiar with chesskid.com, when you create an account, there is a list of usernames generated by the computer that you have to choose from; it doesn't allow you to create your own. The usernames are all combinations of two words.

So anyway, here are some of the funniest usernames I've seen on chesskid:

NauseatingBathtub (749) - my favorite!

SmellyCotton (337)

  FamousBuffalo (975)

ResponsibleMonster (390) - this guy offered a draw when he was clearly losing, and when i declined he abandoned his game. So much for being responsible.

HappyDoorknob (881)

EmbarrassedPuppy (747)

IdioticChimp (496) - surprised that "idiotic" is part of the username generator's vocabulary

GorgeousBathtub (1170) - better than the first one at least

RelaxedChick (644) - "chick" should also be eliminated from the username generator's vocabulary. Too easy to misinterpret...

definetly Kieseritsky was no GM because the GM title was later invented by the russian czar.
