Same happen to me just before. Is it a kind of cheat?
players cheating by abandoning mid game

This happens when the server restarts in the middle of a game.
I use the old Play->Live Chess interface on desktop, and it puts up a large red banner in the upper righthand corner of the screen 40 minutes before a restart saying "Server restart in 40 minutes." This banner remains visible and counts down until the restart.
Based on all the posts that I see about this, I assume that it doesn't show up on mobile or doesn't show up in the new beta interface. If so, this ought to be fixed so that it's evident that a restart is coming regardless of which UI people are using.
If it does show up in these places, then I don't know what to say other than to suggest that people pay attention to the server restart notification and not start a game that they won't have time to finish.

The alert shows in the new interface and I pretty sure it does in the apps as well. Many people don't see it or really pay attention to what it says.

Does aborting the game mean it's a draw?
Or is it like game abandonment where one player wins?
Sorry, I'm a bit confused.
Aborting means the game is gone, just like if you abort on the first move. Nothing written to the archive, no rating changes.

I see. But to my understanding, if people could "hack the system", surely they would be doing scarier things than aborting games in losing positions.
Yes, they would.

The OP is apparently playing around the time server restarts happen, so seems to be more impacted than normal. That's all.

The reason users complaining about this is that server reset notification is not enough to aware. There need to be some big red warning sign on the site when it's about to reset.

+1
Second wave of complaints incoming
"Alert blocking screen"
"Game lost due to alert"
"Stupid update"
Some players are somehow aborting games, when they make a critical mistake that will cost them the game. It has happened to many times, as soon as the make a wrong move (usually during an end game) the game get aborted and they disappear instantly. The game isn’t recorded in the stats nothing. Any idea what is going on and how to stop it?
