Players time out and lose rather than move or resign

I’ve had 2 recent games where the players were behind and rather than resign they let the clock run out. Seems like bad etiquette. Why not just resign and start a new game?

it's because of pride and arrogance on their part. it has no bearing on you or your ability to play. Don't take it personally. you commited that time to playing chess anyway. just wait for your win. a win is a win is a win.

You can report them for stalling - they’re very immature.

I don't have data to support this, but I imagine this behavior is distorted by age and elo rating. Where the younger the player and lower the elo, the more likely this is to occur.
