Players with bad attitude.

I have never come across so many rude people as seem to be on this site.

From my experience here by far the worst are the British who seem to get some kind of sick enjoyment out of sledging opponents for no good reason.

The WORST - some obnoxious British players I have come across and who very much stand out from the crowd.

The BEST - people from India, Pakistan, North America, continental Europe and SE Asia.

Just my experience though.   Fortunately, on this site you can choose who you want to play and disabling chat is a useful facility.

Apologies to some of the very nice British players I have encountered as well.

do NOT google "rude brit" and then enter the first site you come accross without reading it if your wife is sitting next to you.  seriously, do not do it.

but what about all the african swallows that have migrated there with coconuts?

You can't just drop a holy grail reference that has nothing to do with anything and expect laughs.

 a rude brit?

not that you're from germany, but if you were...  you'd think this was a rude brit.

Ban that whole hemisphere!

Yeah, well...

At least the 'rude Brits' (or Americans) need to be a little bit more careful, as the site does have some automated recognition of curses in English language.

However, for the rest of us, there is no such protection, so we have to deal with it much more often. I've been insulted on national basis countless times (by people from neighboring countries).

I was at first surprised that so many people even attach any significance to online blitz games, but that seems to be the case...

What I'm wondering is - what the rest of can do, as a community, to discourage this sort of behavior?

We are the rudest! hurrah, our pretensions to grandeur still alive and well (not that the opinions of vulgar foreignors is of much importance!).

Its so hard to take you seriously when you generalise like that! I guess i just added cypriots on the naughty list, which further enforces my point ;]

Players from India are the nicest.  They dont like, like 95% of the members here during games.  But i chalk that up to the language barrier for the most part.

Overall chess.com is nothing more than a microcosm of the entire world, and societies.  And just like in the real world, the bad gets all the publicity.

I don't know, I kind of see it as further enforcing his point.

I find the worst ones are the Americans, but as a Brit this would figure as judging by the first post they seem to have something against us. I disable the chat if it becomes too offputting and if they've said something offensive I block them afterwards so I don't get matched to play them again. An example from this evening - someone typed 'lol' after I dragged a piece and accidentally let it go in the wrong place, which later cost me the game. I had informed him of what happened immediately after the move and as he then started boasting about how much better he thought he was than me I pointed out that it was nothing to do with his skill level. He then proceeded to hurl obscenities at me, and said he wanted to play me again, which I declined as the whole thing was so unpleasant to deal with.

I am international so that I can be rude, obnoxious, anti-social and uncouth for every country. I am international rudeness. I am globalised gutter trash talk.
