Jude Acers doesn't have an official FIDE title, but his rating is of NM strength.

And whether to spend your money on this or not is your personal decision.

Not a GM, more like a USCF LM-FIDE FM level player. A real kook too, but appearantly pretty well know for beating up guys like you and I in droves.

I'd pay him $5 a game once in a while (every week or so) IF he agreed to do a post mortam. Getting your ass kicked for $5 dollars and not learning anything would be kinda silly.
Jude was frozen at 2399 by the USCF for suspicious match results turned in for rating back in the 1970s which were ballooning his rating, in the absence of any tournament play. They determined that he could never be a senior master (2400) unless he played in a tournament and earned it. He never did play in a tournament to do that, to my knowledge. If memory serves they even backed his rating off 2400+ for this reason.
It was referred to as the Jude Acers Rule.
We see on the USCF site that he played a couple tournaments where the best player (of 3 or 4 in the "tournament") are <1600 USCF. He gained one point the first tournament to get to 2400 and the following tournaments he gained 0 points despite still winning all his games against all weak class players. I'm sure they were very competitive. Looks like a new Jude Acers Rule was in place.
When he did play in a real tournament--what looks like the qualifier for the World Senior Championships--he dropped below 2400 on the strength of his 2nd place finish in the seven man, 3 master (including him) field.

So, he seems to be a regular old NM player, maybe a good one, but not one I'd send to the bank with the store receipts.
I played Jude this past weekend on my visit to NOLA. He crushed me with ease (which is not saying much), but was EXTREMELY friendly and showed me my mistakes and complimented me on some of my better moves. I think he is a very good ambassador for chess.
I want to play a titled player, but dont have the money, and even if i did I would rather spend it on getting a date or maybe a guitar. So chances of my playing a Titled player outside of a tournoment are slim

Isn't that illegal?
down where we are, we can get beat for free every day on the internet. if, however, he'll chat with ya and help you a little, sure. but 5 bucks to lose to someone legendary doesn't make much sense unless it's only a few times. :D

It's legal in Nevada!
I guess someone will correct me if I am wrong ( and some will correct me even if I am right no doubt ) but I was under the impression that Acers plays blitz for money almost every day at some place in New Orleans ? In 2007 I saw him , the only time I have ever seen him , in Gmunder Austria playing in the seniors world championships.... my wife was playing that event too and I was her " side kick " .

two things
one: refer to post twelve
two: Get back on topic

He seems to play regularly in the french quarter of NOLA. Also seems a bit on the shady side ....
I played Mr. Acers at the Gazebo restaurant during my pre-Katrina visits to New Orleans. He wasn't playing speed chess then. It was just a game of chess without a clock. He was very gracious in analyzing the games afterward and even wrote out a list of books he thought might be helpful to my game. He was always polite and friendly. I never beat him, but I did manage to get into an end game with him a pawn up once. I still lost.
I've visted New Orleans three or four times since Katrina, but never found Mr. Acers at his previous spot. I inquired about him at the Gazebo restaurant, but they didn't seem to know what became of him. ( The performers and staff at the restaurant changed after Katrina.) I hope that he came through the hurricane well, but until reading this I hadn't heard anything of him in quite a while.
To answer the initial question about playing him for $ 5.00 per game, I'd say it probably would be beneficial. I always found it enjoyable.
What you guys think about the idea to play a GM everyday for 5 bucks? Jude Acers is a GM or Master that play in my city everyday. Will that be a good investment to play a GM everyday of the week. Do anyone on this site no of Jude Acers he told me he played Bobby Fisher before.
unless he teaches you something and helps to pinpoint your errors in the game I'll say it is money out the window. I doubt I'll learn something playing against a GM.
but it is a good thing to be punished for a mistake. but not if you do not know what the errors was and if you try to ask a 2000 rated player; he might not spot the error.
playing someone 200-400 rated higher than you may be a better idea.
