Playing fast in 15|10 game

I decided that I'm fed up with playing fast games where I don't really have time to explore my options and take in the entire board (subsequently losing), so I started playing the 15|10 games.

I found that indeed my game has immensly improved, and I even managed to win a tourney yesterday (though the last opponent accused me of cheating).

That said, I found that most opponents don't use the time properly, and after 10-15 moves they have more time than they began with! In the tourney yesterday 3/5 opponents ended with twice the amount of time I had.

I played someone before and I only had about 8 min left while he had 15+. I was also at least a piece up! He then resigned because 'I play too slowly for his tastes' - but if you're in a rush, why not play 5|2 min games?

Another where my opponent just rushed headlong into moves:

Want to play me in 15|10?

How do you play someone specific?

Once again my opponent ended with 8.00 min while I only had 1.53. I won despite playing a dubitious opening (for the psychological aspect of putting my opponent in unfamiliar territory), but with much careful thought in the first 10-15 moves.

Seeing as you end up in time trouble often, you should probably play slower games.

I wouldn't really call it time trouble - more like time utilisation.

Yeah as long as you're not consistently running out, use the time you're given. No point playing blitz vs someone using 15 minutes.

Time management isn't something I think I've mastered but I don't run out much and I think I'm not scared of using a few minutes on a tough position.

Okay, seeing as you utilise more time than 15|10 games have (which is a very good thing), you should probably play slower games.

Nice games, especially the last one! :)
