Playing first tournament abroad?

Hello,

As of the moment, there are no tournaments in my country due to the pandemic. Just curious as I'm currently browsing some open tournaments abroad, would it be possible to get an initial FIDE rating overseas? May seem like a stupid question, I know that there's a federation for each player, would my federation be still my home country even though I got my initial rating overseas?

Yes, your federation would still be the same. You would need to contact your federation though, to see about getting yourself assigned a FIDE ID if you plan on playing a FIDE tourney in another country.

Thanks! do I have to contact them prior the tournament or after? and if I have a FIDE ID via the FIDE online area, will that FIDE ID translate over the board? (i think the FIDE online rating does not translate over the board, but unsure about the FIDE ID received online)

I believe the ID you get from their Arena would be sufficient, but your best bet would be to contact your federation to make sure prior to going.
