Playing on chess.com is awful, too much cheating going on

The amount of cheating on here seems to be increasing rather than diminishing. Some has been acted upon but here have been at least two instances in the past three days of very low-rated players, c. 700-800, leading arena tournaments with 100% scores, including beating guys/gals rated 2000+, and being allowed to not only play 15 rounds or more in 3 2 and 5 5 tournaments and still being allowed to carry on. My FIDE rating is over 2100 so I do know a little, and this is absolutely blantant.

Its a pity my membership has got a few months to run or I'd cancel it today. As it is, if this continues, then it won't be long before I'm gone, playing on here is pointless (in more than one way) in this situation.

NMRhino. Thanks, I didn't know about that. Just done it and I'll see how it goes.

Cheers!

How on earth is it possible to cheat?  I don’t get it.  I mean, maybe the ratings are off or something, I dunno and am not qualified to say.  Are you saying people can hack the site?

Using computers to assist (actually replace) their play.

Oh, you sweet summer child....

There are entire websites / software programs dedicated to cheating on chess.com, an entire infrastructure of code and process on the cc side to detect who's using it, and a crazy cat & mouse of each side trying to outcode the other...

As it stands eventually they catch almost everyone cheating, but if they do it smartly it can take a long time, and a way longer time at lower levels of play...

Anyway this post is gon' get the lock.   Head over to the "Cheating Forum" group if you want to discuss this stuff without getting mod-hammered.

It is true I am wet behind the ears as to the pitfalls of online chess (or any gaming).  One of several reasons I only ever play as a Guest is because this topic comes up again and again (and again).  Why bother with a ratings number?  I am not so good, anyway.

But I have seen servers get rebooted ans games can go *poof*, but there’s always a warning beforehand.  Could that be what’s happening?

Don't forget creating scores of fake accounts and shaping their elo by having them play each other.   (Fun game - reverse image search some of the profile pictures of the <name><four-digit-number> folks and see where the images come from.   Stock photos?   Sure!   Facebook profiles of deceased individuals?  Check.   AI-generated montages?  ooooo advanced!   Distinctive usernames and photos easily map to obviously different real-world people?   Identity-theft-errific...)

If you suspect an account of using disallowed resources, you should report them:

https://support.chess.com/article/209-how-do-i-report-someone

That said, discussions of cheating, potential cheating, or cheat detection are not allowed in the general forums.

The site closes tens of thousands of accounts for fair play violations each month: https://www.chess.com/article/view/chesscom-update-2022
