playing stronger players

Hello, I have recently been asked by one of my friends about what to do when playing a stronger player and I had to say stick to the principles of chess and try to grab as much as an advantage as you can. Below I will post a game that I have recently played against my grandfather, a very solid chess player. and if you have anything to add about playing better players please let me know

I only have one view on this; just play chess. It is possible to try other tactics, but thats not being truthful to yourself to really improve.

So just play what you feel is the best chess, against anyone really! Thats my view/take on it, and im sure many people would say the same.

Ignore your opponent's rating and trust the principles you have learned.

on move 44. your grandpa dropped his knight LOL. you should have taken it!! he couldnt force stalemate because you would have been able to get in f7 and then queen before stalemate would occur. Either way, you won, which is good. But, I do have to say that your game seemed kind of interesting. I am probably about a 1700+ USCF player, and your moves just seemed slightly inaccurate. I would suggest reading silman's HTRYC and The Amateurs Mind also by Silman. Try to read My 60 Memorable Games by Bobby Fischer as well. You should make it to 1500 in No time. I suggest playing players around 100-150 points above your rating in order to improve.

Okay, thanks a lot. And what do you mean by inacuracies, my goal is a rating of around 1500 and if I could even improve in the least I would love some more advice please and thanks

to improve = practice practice practice. Oh some advice? It won't help you, but be "more careful" :)

once you play, you'll start understanding your position more, and how to see which ones are more comfortable for you and play it out, and develop your own style; which reflects the type of moves which you make. Usually you have to adopt certain styles/play types of moves you don;t usually go for to play the "best game" (the best game leads on to you being comfortable though :P), but usually there are many okay moves, and you can choose ones which u can prefer.

29.Rd8+ Ke7 30.Re8#.

(and if you didn't see that, then why not take his knight with 28.Bxa4?)
